COMPUTER IMAGING

Computerized Imaging allows creating a new smile for patients without ever touching your mouth. This is found to be a great tool in improving communication and education with our patients because it gives the patient an opportunity to participate in creating their own smile.
Imaging can also prevent unrealistic expectations with the final result. The imaging is used to improve communication of dentist with the restorative labs. Once the expected results are created this is sent to the lab with prescription, leading to more predictable and esthetic results and patient satisfaction.
This is all done through the magic of a computer, color monitor, our camera and the specialized software. The still photo of the patient is taken and saved on the screen using the computer. The simulated procedures on the computer are created including closing spaces, repairing fractured teeth, veneers, crowning, bleaching, recontouring, and orthodontic and tooth lengthening. It is even possible to correct a gummy smile showing results what a patient would look like when the procedure is finally done.
LOGICON CARIES DETECTOR

One of the most difficult tasks for any dentist is being able to view cavities in between teeth. Visual analysis of dental X-rays is difficult (because the human eye tends to smooth out density gradients). Dental x-ray images are highly variable (due to film type, exposure level, tooth structure and shape). According to a study done by the UCLA School of dentistry, the presence of cavities and their depth is misdiagnosed up to 40% of the time and healthy teeth are misdiagnosed up to 20% of the time.
Logicon caries detector uses algorithms based on laboratory data to automatically outline lesions on tooth image directly on the computer. In another study conducted at UCLA 608 teeth were analyzed by Logicon Caries detector and by 18 dentists. The results proved that Logicon outperformed humans on cavity detection.
CYNOVAD SHADESCAN

With the click of a button the tooth is imaged and the software generates instantaneously a complete range of shade mappings with full value, chroma and hue analysis and identifies translucent and opaque areas; makes shade measurement objective and consistent, allows a digital record of shades and facilitates dentist-laboratory communication. It allows dentists to do custom shades and also to confirm a shade match. The ShadeScan achieves all of this by utilizing the power of artificial perception technology. Human visual perception is embedded in the ShadeScan. This creates an intelligent device that perceives and interprets the visual appearance of teeth the same way a human eye does- but with the accuracy and consistency of a computer.
Benefits of ShadeScan to the patients:
- Objective and consistent shade measurement of teeth.
- Reduces remakes of porcelain.
- Facilitates dentist-laboratory communication.
- Monitor bleaching of teeth by color mapping shade changes.
OralCDx
OralCDx represents a breakthrough in oral cancer detection, a test that will allow you and your dentist to improve the prognosis of a disease that has remained unchanged for the last 50 years.
OralCDx is the first computerized brush biopsy system. It allows dentists to quickly, painlessly and reliably detect oral cancer in its earliest, most easily treatable stage.
Originally developed as part of the “Star Wars” missile defense program, the OralCDx computer system includes a neural network-based image processing system specifically adapted to detect abnormalities unique to oral brush biopsy samples.
OralCDx's oral brush biopsy allows dentists and other medical professionals to easily and painlessly test common, harmless-looking, unexplained red and white spots that may in fact be precancers or cancer. OralCDx is a system that combines a painless oral brush biopsy, with advanced computer analysis.
Your doctor can now painlessly detect unhealthy cells years before they can cause any harm. Learn how you can protect your health with OralCDx
DENTAL LASER

The DeLight™ Erbium YAG dental laser is a pulsed light that provides pinpoint accuracy to gently remove decay without the need for anesthesia or the drill in most cases. It also helps sterilize as it works and is less traumatic to the tooth than the drill. Here are just a few of the benefits of the DELight hard/soft tissue laser:
- No need for needles, yet no pain. It's a breeze. Drills are very powerful, and the vibration and large hole produced can cause discomfort, making some type of anesthesia almost necessary. With the DELight laser, the light works to destroy and remove the decay with no uncomfortable tooth vibration and resulting discomfort. In fact, clinical studies have shown that 96% of all patients, both adults and children, required no anesthesia when the DELight dental laser was used to remove decay.
- No high-pitched whine or vibration from the grinding of the drill.
- The laser sterilizes the tooth as it removes decay, many dentists now use 'bonded' filling materials enriched with fluoride, it reduces the chances of recurrent decay under that new filling.
- The laser activates microscopic droplets of water that removes tooth decay. The lack of nerve inflammation when the DELight is used results in significantly less tooth sensitivity after new fillings.
- Laser treatment of the tooth surface has been shown to result in 50-70% more resistance to tooth decay.
- Vibration from dental drills routinely causes micro-cracks in enamel that can progress into teeth causing the need for crowns and root canal therapy. Reducing the potential for cracked teeth means fewer crowns and root canals.
- The laser is more conservative in what it removes than a drill, and that means the tooth retains more strength and less chance of future problems.
- The most common areas of tooth decay are the natural pits and fissures found on the biting surfaces of molars. Sealing these fissures that are often so narrow the conventional methods of cleaning them are unable to fully remove the debris. In contrast, the laser can be set at a very low power setting, allowing total removal of all debris without loss of healthy enamel. The obvious result is a sealant that has an excellent chance of lasting and preventing tooth decay for an entire lifetime.
- Historically, sealants have only been placed on children because by adulthood debris collecting in the fissures has become so firmly "packed" that sealants have been unsuccessful. The DELight laser can remove this debris, thus affording adults the same sealant protection against the most common type of tooth decay as children.
- The DELight is especially good for kids because they no longer need to get shots, or hear a loud drill. Without these things to worry about, kids won't become afraid of the dentist, and won't grow up to be adults afraid of the dentist.
- With the use of the water laser, there is no numbness, and thus no chance of a child injuring himself by biting his lip or tongue.
- With no need for needles, fillings can be done on the same visit with no need to bring you back. Also, without numbness you can tell right away how the bite feels.
Currently there are very few of these types of advanced dental lasers operating.
