undoubtedly be the most eye-catching feature of your face The most
disarming feature of an individual’s personality is the quality
of his/her beautiful, free flowing smile. If one has discoloured,

their mouth with their hand whenever laughter cannot be avoided.

and the beautiful smile you have ever dreamed. Appreciative expressions
on the faces of people you often meet or otherwise, works as mirror

you look and feel. You use your teeth every time you smile, laugh,
kiss, speak, chew and in every professional and social situation.

Bleaching (Whitening)
Is one of the very popular procedures in cosmetic dentistry. Treatment
begins when your dentist creates a custom made bleaching tray to ensure
the correct amount of whitening a solution of 10-20 percent carbamide
peroxide is used, and that your teeth are properly exposed. It is
quite simple, cost-effective, permanent technique for obtaining a
desired dazzling, whiter smile in office or at home in just a matter
of days, without altering the shape and size of the teeth.
Bonding
Is best described as simply adding little tooth-colored composite
materials matching the shade, translucency and texture of your teeth
to "fill in the blanks." Front teeth are the most frequently
used places where the most bonding technique is applied to fill in
a gap in between. The spots, chips, and discolorations so eliminated,
enhances the aesthetics of smile and your self-confidence. This is
a virtually painless procedure and is mostly completed in one visit.
Enamel Shaping
(Contouring)
Is one of the processes of shaping natural teeth to improve their
appearance. Shaping can be used to correct minor cases of crowded
or overlapping teeth, smooth rough edges, or make small adjustments
to the shape of a tooth/teeth. Contouring teeth may also help correct
small problems with bite as also the smile. It is common for bonding
to be combined with tooth reshaping. An X-rays might be necessary
to evaluate the size and location of the pulp of each tooth to ensure
that there's enough bone between the teeth to support them.
Veneers
Are custom, porcelain facings that are bonded to the front surfaces
of teeth to close spaces, repair chipped or worn out teeth, straighten
teeth or even whiten teeth. The veneers are generally only about 1
mm thick (the thickness of a fingernail). That same thickness is "shaved"
off the natural tooth surface so when the veneer is bonded to the
tooth, the tooth doesn't feel or look "thicker". Once the
cement is between the veneer and your tooth, a light beam is used
to harden it. Porcelain veneers require more than one visit because
they are fabricated in a laboratory. Veneers have a longer life expectancy
and color stability than bonding. Veneers are used to treat some of
the same problems as bonding. This treatment is an alternative to
crowns, which are more expensive.
Caps (Crowns)/Bridges
Are no longer used for cosmetic purposes, since the advent of veneers
that are more aesthetic. But there are cases in which a crown may
still be necessary for a particular tooth. For example, a tooth with
a bad fracture or a large filling that is breaking down, or has decay
around it, may be a candidate for a crown instead of a veneer. The
veneers have been used in this picture of a patient. But in one of
the front teeth with a large filling a crown was the better option.
Crowns can be made out of porcelain (or some other ceramic material),
gold (or metal alloys), or a combination of both. Dental crowns are
often referred to as "dental caps" or "tooth caps".
In other cases, a non-removable bridge may be an answer by replacing
missing teeth. The bridges can restore your teeth to normal function
and improve the entire health of your mouth, including structure of
your face and jaw.
White fillings
Are in vogue today, as replacement for silver or gold fillings.
The tooth coloured fillings material look successfully natural with
the adjacent tooth and more aesthetic. Since teeth are translucent,
dark fillings cause the whole tooth to appear darker when viewed from
the side. Replacing older dark fillings with white fillings definitely
enhance the glow in your smile! Another advantage is that less healthy
part of a tooth must be removed to hold this filling in place. These
fillings require only a single visit. Besides looking better, these
teeth are now more resistant to fracture.
Micro-Abrasion
Discoloured enamel can be gently ground away using an abrasive, acid-based
paste. In severe cases, the enamel may be removed entirely and the
tooth sealed with appropriately coloured filling. Micro-abrasion is
the method of removing white spots on teeth and superficial enamel
stains. This method removes micro layers of enamel to eliminate minor
defects and spots. Smile Designing
A good smile involves in it more than just healthy teeth and gums.
High Quality Cosmetic Dentistry requires meticulous attention to detail.
It's the little things that count. It is a blend of symmetry, color,
shape and lines that create a balanced harmonious smile. Just because
teeth are white does not mean that they are cosmetic. The various
attributes of a smile can be favourably altered to create a natural,
beautiful smile. Smile designing deals with the remodeling of the
teeth and supporting structures so as to give you a complete new look.
A natural beautiful smile is the goal.
Orthodontics
Is no longer just frontal braces. In the specific cases, younger children
now have better option of using Arch expanders to prevent or minimize
any need for braces. A patient, for whom the need for braces is unavoidable
or are necessary due to overcrowded, overlapping, crooked or severely
gapped teeth may need corrective orthodontic treatment, can help himself
the choice of silver, gold or white/clear brackets. Retainers may
be used to help maintain straight teeth
Dental Implants
This is a specialised field of dentistry, more by way of training
and experience, performed by Prosthodontists, Periodontists or Oral
& Maxillofacial Surgeons. A missing tooth can be replaced with
a dental implant rather than a partial denture. A small titanium screw
is fixed into the jaw and the crown or tooth is fitted. In time, the
screw becomes fused (osseointegeration) with the bone of the jaw.
Implants are successful in around 95 to 98 per cent of cases. Those
that replace the front teeth in the lower jaw have a near perfect
success rate.
